Privacy policy
Last updated
SetPoint runs padel tournaments: it plans the rounds, keeps score and saves the results. This policy covers the SetPoint app and the website at setpointlive.com. It explains what information SetPoint handles, where it goes, how long it's kept and what you can do about it.
The short version
- You don't need an account. Without one, your tournaments, players and teams stay on your device, and we never see them.
- With an account, they're also kept on our server, so they follow you to your other devices.
- A tournament you share can be seen by anyone with its link, until you stop sharing.
- Feedback is emailed to us through Resend, and deleted a year after you send it.
- SetPoint has no ads. We don't sell your information or use it to track you.
- You can delete your account, and everything stored with it, in Settings.
Who we are
SetPoint is run from South Africa, so the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) applies to how we handle your information. In this policy “we” and “us” mean SetPoint. For anything about your privacy, email feedback@setpointlive.com.
On your device
SetPoint keeps your tournaments, players, teams and settings in storage on your device. That's what lets it work with no signal at the courts. Without an account none of it leaves your device, unless you send it yourself: a backup you export, results you share, or feedback.
It stays there until you delete it, use Reset storage in Settings, or clear SetPoint's data from your browser or phone. Anyone who can open SetPoint on your device can see it.
SetPoint doesn't use cookies. Alongside your data, your browser's storage holds your settings, the tournament you're setting up, your sign-in if you have an account, any feedback waiting for a signal, and a random code for this browser, which is explained under Sharing live scores and Feedback.
Accounts
An account is optional. It's what syncs your tournaments, players and teams between your devices, and what lets you share live scores.
- Email and password. We keep your email address. Your password is stored in a form that can't be turned back into the password, so nobody can read it, including us.
- Continue with Google. Google gives us your name, email address, a link to your profile picture and an ID for your Google account, and they're stored with your account. SetPoint only uses the email address. Google's privacy policy covers what Google does.
- Signed-in devices. For each device you're signed in on, our server keeps a record with its IP address and browser, to keep your account secure. It's deleted when you sign out on that device or delete your account.
We use your email address to sign you in and to send the emails an account needs, like confirming your address or resetting your password. We don't send you anything else.
Tournaments, players and teams
When you're signed in, what's on your device is copied to our server and kept in step with your other devices:
- tournaments: their names, settings, rounds, matches and scores;
- players: their names, and the Female or Male tag if you give them one (Mixed Americano uses it to make pairs);
- teams: their names and players.
Your settings stay on the device.
Most of this is other people's names. Only add people who are happy to be in your tournaments, and only tag someone who's happy for you to. Nobody else can see any of it unless you share a tournament.
When you delete a tournament, its rounds, matches and line-up are deleted from our server too. Its own record (its name and settings), and any player or team you delete, are kept marked as deleted, so your other devices know to delete them as well. They're erased when you delete your account.
Sharing live scores
Sharing is off until you turn it on for a tournament. Then anyone with the link or QR code can see the tournament's name, the players' and teams' names (with any Female or Male tags), the matches, the scores and the leaderboard, with no app or account. Stop sharing turns the link off, and so does deleting the tournament.
To count viewers without knowing who they are, each viewer's browser sends a random code it made up. The organiser only sees the number.
Offers to help
Anyone watching a shared tournament can offer to help run it. They give a name and, if they want, an email address, and the organiser sees both so they can decide and get in touch. The offer carries the random code for that browser too: it stops one phone asking twice, and it's how an approved helper's phone gets access.
Offers are deleted 30 days after they're made. When the organiser says yes, the helper's name stays with the tournament so the organiser can see who has access, until the organiser deletes their account. Helpers never become players.
Feedback
Send feature idea / bug in Settings sends us:
- your message;
- your email address, if you give one. It's optional, and only used to answer you;
- the SetPoint version and a short description of your device, like “Android 14 · Chrome 129 · installed · 412×915”, to help track bugs down;
- the random code for this browser, which limits how many messages one browser can send;
- which account sent it, if you're signed in.
Your message is stored on our server, and Resend emails a copy to feedback@setpointlive.com. Cloudflare forwards that address to the Gmail inbox where we read it. Our replies go out through Resend too.
How long it's kept. Each message is deleted from our server a year after you send it, and its copy in our inbox on the same schedule. Resend keeps its own copy of each email for 30 days. If you delete your account, feedback you sent while signed in is deleted from our server straight away, and its email copy keeps to its year unless you ask us to delete it sooner. You can ask that for any message.
You can also email feedback@setpointlive.com directly. Those emails are kept for a year too.
Visits to the website
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits to setpointlive.com: which page was opened, the site that linked to it, the visitor's country, browser, operating system and type of device, and how quickly the page loaded. It doesn't use cookies or follow you from site to site, and we only see totals. SetPoint has no other analytics tools.
What we use it for
Only to run the features you use, to answer you, and to keep SetPoint secure and working, for example by limiting how often one browser can send feedback. We never use it for advertising, and we never sell it.
Who handles it for us
- Supabase
- Runs our server: accounts, synced tournaments, shared scoreboards, offers to help and feedback. Its servers are in London, in the UK.
- Cloudflare
- Hosts the website and app, forwards email sent to setpointlive.com, and counts visits. Like any web host, it sees your IP address when you load SetPoint. It runs worldwide.
- Resend
- Delivers the email SetPoint sends: feedback to our inbox and our replies to you. It's based in the United States.
- Signs you in if you choose Continue with Google, and hosts the Gmail inbox where we read feedback.
Supabase, Cloudflare and Resend only use your information to provide their service to us, under data protection terms of their own. Google handles sign-in and Gmail under Google's privacy policy. Some of this happens outside South Africa, and outside your own country if you live elsewhere. We don't share your information with anyone else, unless the law makes us.
How long things are kept
- On your device
- Until you delete it, reset storage, or clear SetPoint's data from your browser or phone.
- Your account and what's synced to it
- Until you delete your account.
- Deleted tournaments, players and teams
- Marked as deleted on our server until you delete your account.
- Feedback
- A year, on our server and in our inbox. Resend keeps its copy for 30 days.
- Offers to help
- 30 days.
- Helpers' names and view counts
- With the tournament, until the organiser deletes their account.
- Signed-in devices
- Until you sign out on that device or delete your account.
- Our server's logs, which include IP addresses
- A day.
Your choices and rights
- See your data. Everything you've entered is in the app. Export backup in Settings saves a copy to a file.
- Correct it. Change it in the app, or ask us.
- Delete your account. Settings › Account › Delete account, in the app or at setpointlive.com/settings once you've signed in. It deletes your account and everything stored with it on our server straight away. What's on that device is your choice: keep it or delete it too. Other devices are signed out and keep what's on them.
- Delete data without an account. Delete it in the app, or use Reset storage in Settings.
- Ask us. Email feedback@setpointlive.com to find out what we hold about you, or to correct it, delete it or object to how we use it. For feedback sent without an account, tell us the email address you gave or roughly what you wrote. We'll reply within 30 days.
- Complain. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to South Africa's Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za, POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za), or to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Each account can only reach its own data, and the database enforces that, not just the app. Feedback can't be read through the app at all, only by us in the database. No system is perfectly secure: if your information were ever exposed, we'd tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA requires.
Children
SetPoint isn't aimed at children. If you're under 18, ask a parent or guardian before you create an account or send us feedback. If you run a junior tournament, think about using first names only, especially if you share it. If you think a child has given us personal information without permission, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When SetPoint changes what it collects or who handles it, we'll update this page before the change and put the new date at the top.
